Gentlemen :

A prospective problem that I ran into this morning is with regards to the
ARMite AURDUINO FOOTPRINT . I don't know that any of our group's members have
had the same problem ; my printed circuit guy related to me . Maybe I'm just
being STUPID or something .

On the ANALOG SIDE of the ARMite board , there is a "spacing problem" which
requires a varied spacing from the standard value of .01 per be decreased
between the first analog bus thru to the PSUref signals be decreased to a
spacing of .005 " ( Only between these busses ) .

Since my project run has to go to the .005 spacing , I've lost the contract on
this prod run . A matter of re-tooling the CAD to .005 . For me , no big deal ;
for this PC guy , apparently it was a BIG DEAL . Anyway , it's just more water
under the bridge . What's going to happen IF I decide to go to 1/4 mil traces
and a muti-layered board prod run to save the "real estate" spacing with SMD's ?

I personally "breadboarded" my ARMite on .01 by 1 inch headers to effectively
"mate" with my older breadboard . The extra length of the pins and SLACK did it
. Did not think that this would come into play ; but it DID . EXTRA expenditures
to get thru this one !

Is the AURDUINO FOOTPRINT considered as a "standard" for the industry or maybe
I should just "back off" on my meds ?

Can the NEW design board be made to mate with ANYTHING on an industry standard
of a matrix based upon .01 centers ? The obvious savings in production alone
SELLS this design . ( Overhead SNAPSHOT on .01 spacings )

I don't think Arduino is an 'industry' standard, more like a 'common' footprint.

I have no idea why your pcb people can't drill the board to whatever dimensions
you say. Time to get a new pcb shop eh?

We are being footprint compatible with the Arduino PRO, so we don't get to set
the spacing. Not sure I understand the numbers or positions you are talking
about.

The Power, Analog and Digital 0-7 pins are on 0.1" spacing. The Digital 8-14
connector is the oddball. For some reason this is spaced 0.165" from the other,
not 0.2"

Why, ask Arduino, some forums think this was just an error that keeps getting
carried forward. I don't know what the odd cut outs where for either.

This footprint mates with a number of what Arduino calls shields, which are
other boards that add flexibility and features.

Our boards are typically laid out on a 5 mil (0.005) grid with 7 mil trace and 8
mil space. This is somewhat standard. And holes can normally be drilled on 1
mil 0.001" grid.

SparkFun has some headers that are pre-bent to line the odd connector to the
0.1" space.
