Gentlemen :

I finally decided to build up a large " perf board " chocked full of the many
stupid kinda circuits like a 555 time base , 12 stage ripple counter , an 8 bit
" status " display , a 4 digit up/dn counter ; all to free up my breadboard
space . As I keep rebuilding these stupid circuits for various projects , this
thing was really needed . Should have done this 20 years ago when I first though
of it !

All of these individual circuits have outputs / inputs available on wiring able
to plug into the breadboard . SAVED a lot of space for the 2 day headache of
putting this thing together . I did get to ligthen up my junkbox quite a bit
though !

Advice : Spend the time and do something similar . It saves a lot of
frustration in the long run . Don't Give Up !

You can find about any useful add-on circuit for breadboards at sparkfun.com or
mikroelectronica.com. Most of these are $20 or less, not counting S&H. These
typically come with 2x5 male or female headers. Plug 'em in, attach power, and
you're good to go. I am about to populate an Olimex AVR proto board with male
and female headers that connect back to the processor socket so as to tap off
the I/O pins of an ATMega644P part. I will then be able to install any needed
add-on circuit to do a job.

Good idea.

I like Futurlecs' mini-boards. Each small ~2x2.5in board has the same
footprint, and each does 1 task, like RTC, eeprom, sdcard, etc. Each usually
has male and female connectors, many have jumpers for options such as pullup
resistors, etc. And very low cost.

Only bad part is waiting, since they ship from Thailand, it can take several
weeks to get parts. I can get the $100 box with priority ship in about 2 weeks.
I have not had a problem with support, and one time 1 missing part was reshipped
right away.

I am using the sparkfun jumpers they made, makes proto-ing systems a snap.
