Loss of communication

Post by demoman »

I picked up a new machine (PC) recently.

When I started downloading large BASIC programs, there were often loss of communication errors. Seemed like it had to do with certain constructs being used in BASIC, so I eliminated those, but...

Recently it started happening more frequently. So I updated the FTDI driver, but still no luck.

Finally I logged onto the HP website and did a check for driver updates, turns out there were a lot of them. And what do you know, the BASIC download problem went away.

Moral of the story; when hardware issues crop up, make sure your system is up to date.

Don't you run auto update for that? it is one of the main problems that can effect your all soft wares and other programs as well.

Auto update does not update BIOS or many low level drivers. For that you need to log into the hardware vendor of your machine and check for their updates. I do it from time to time, probably about once a year or more frequently if some hardware is misbehaving.
