High Current Drivers

I need to drive eight swimming pool valve actuators that take 24 VAC at 0.75
amps with my DINkit. The ULN2803 would work if it was only rated for 250
milli-amps. My question - is there a higher current equivalent of the 2803 (I
have searched but so far no luck) or should I use relays to drive the actuators?

Thanks - Jim

Hi, Jim,

I'd look at solid state relays or optocouplers driving a triac. The
solid state relay solution is cleaner, but may be more expensive.

Jim.

The opto triac would be a good match, and fit into the footprints for the
opto-isolators of the DINkit.

Using the ULN2803, you would still need isolation from the 24VAC line, which you
could do with a small relay mounted either remotely or at the DINkit.

There are also solid state relays in the DIP4,6 or 8 pin form factor

something like this (lots of others) available at DigiKey

What would be the best device to use for a relay driver. I was looking at a
8-Channels Darlington Sink Driver.
Thanks

Depends on the relays, but the ULN2803 is usually a good choice.

Where can I get a ULN2308? I tried Mouser, Allied, Newark, and NTE cross ref.

Thanks again

Bruce was right the first time, ULN2803, Mouser stock# 595-ULN2803LN.

I put a diagram here

That shows the power/GND and relay connections. The drive circuit on the DINkit
