Running Coridium utils/software in Windows XP on VirtualBox

Post by newton »

> cat hey.txt

does anybody here think running a dev environment for Coridium boards on XP in VBox will work? or should i default to Win7?

i am unsure which OS best supports Coridium boards and would like to just jump into programming without the headache of worrying about tooling

thanks,
newton

Well, I run on XP sp2 native and haven't had issues.
'
I have run Coridium tools under WINE on a Lubuntu 14.02 LTS machine-- the mapping of
the COMport or USBport is a bit of an issue. - very simple compiles so far on this platform
'
:You don't say what the host OS is?? and is VBOX mapping of USB ports done okay
(without issues? - in VBOX:: my VBOX experience is more with mass storage, text editing, web b rowsers.
'
this might shed some light [don't have a Win7 machine]

I don't have any experience running VM on linux/unix so I can't help there.

At one point in time we had ported the tools to linux, but have not kept up with that as we didn't seem to have any takers.

As for XP, I expect our tools will work there for the foreseeable future. Win95/98 do not work as too many things in Tcl changed and it eventually broke, though it was long after Win95/8 became obsolete.

We have been playing a bit with QTcreate, but not sure what if anything will come of that.

Probably nothing will come of our Qt work, just another tool to look at. Seems like most people doing C# prefer Xamarin these days, and now that is free since Microsoft took it over.

Right now there is not much reason to redo the IDE for either BASIC or C. We do most of our work on Windows, and I expect that to continue. But Tcl was originally developed on Linux, so our IDE can be ported there. At one point I got our Tcl running on Linux recently, but without much interest there doesn't seem to be much reason for us to support it. There are also Tcl environments on Android and iOS.

Here is our latest Tcl sources, which should be pretty close to running on Linux.
