I switched over to Win10 recently and while most MakeItC and BASICtools are working, Win10 takes longer to release USB serial ports. And that can cause some issues when switching ports or resetting the device. In both cases the code closes and re-opens the serial port. This takes a long time in BASICtools, and may lose connection. In MakeItC, during downloads it runs idLPC to verify the device and then loadLPC closing the serial port in between.
I will change the behavior of these two in the next month or so, in the meantime be aware Win10 may loose the serial port during switches/reset. Sometimes I have had to disconnect the USB serial and reconnect it (physically).
On MakeItC, I had to manually run the loadLPC to load the code.
On the whole I actually like Win10, but USB serial handling is not as good as it use to be. Actually Microsoft seems to think USB serial is an interface approaching obsolescence.
Win10 support
Re: Win10 support
Just downloaded a new driver from ftidichip, version 2.12.10 that seems to cure the slow release of the serial port on open and close, so things seem to be OK now. Good I didn't really want to slow down MakeItC downloads.
Still liking WIn10.

Re: Win10 support
OK, back to putting up a red flag warning on Win10. It seems to be changing weekly or faster.
USB serial open / close seems to be an issue again. Didn't work, then worked for a while now not working again. And there is a new FTDI driver as of 1/18/2016 though that does not seem to help.
All in all I still like the Win10 GUI, but the underneath is still is a state of flux. 2 weeks ago all of my network printers stopped working, now back again. The edge browser got so slow I could type way faster than it could handle, and while I am a touch typist, I am not all that fast.

Re: Win10 support
Win10 still seems to be updating low level drivers at a rapid rate.
USB serial was completely unstable, and in desperation I tried updating the BIOS and Intel drivers. AND THAT seemed to make things much better. So I suggest checking the versions of the hardware support code with PC vendor, Dell in my case.
This seems to be ongoing, as I was listening to one of the computer shows and they were talking about issues with the Surface PRO, if Microsoft can't get Win10 working on their own hardware, where does that leave the rest of us.
So now the threat level is YELLOW.
